HOW Index® and DISC
Do you want to take your understanding of human behaviour to the next level? Discover the power of Ensize behavioural style assessments, which are a must-have for anyone involved in personal development, team dynamics, leadership skills, and sales performance.
Behavioural style assessments like HOW Index®/DISC are used to learn about, predict, understand and describe human behaviour. They are both instruments that describe how people are likely to behave when interacting with their environment.
Our range of tools includes HOW Index®, DISC, Situational DISC, and PWS – Personal Work Style. Each tool is uniquely designed to suit different needs and applications and uses a visual colour language based on Goethe’s colour theory to simplify and clarify. The assessments are based on self-evaluation and are not a personality test.

The differences between HOW Index® and DISC
The table shows the differences between HOW Index® and DISC. Depending on the purpose and goal, there are different advantages to each assessment. DISC is an ipsative assessment and only highlights the basic and the adapted behaviour. HOW Index® is a normative assessment that allows to highlight different specific situations. It’s more dynamic and can also be compared with different normative groups.
Why are colours used to describe behaviour?
The colour language is based on the poet and politician Johann Wolfgang von Goethe’s description of how colours affect people. Goethe was well versed in the physical and chemical side of colour and felt compelled to write a ‘colour theory’. Many associations with colours are universal and, therefore, intuitively understood by most people.
Simplicity
Colours are simple and clear signals that can be understood without the need for complex terms or descriptions. Assigning a colour to each behavioural style makes it easier to identify different personality traits or behavioural patterns.
Easy to remember
Colours make it easier to remember and distinguish different behavioural styles. Associating a certain behaviour with a specific colour makes it easier to anchor the information in memory and use it as a reference point in communication and assessment.
Communication
Colours can serve as a universal method of communication that transcends language barriers. By using colours, one can quickly and easily convey behavioural patterns and personality traits to other people, regardless of linguistic or cultural differences.
Visualisation
Colours make it possible to create visual charts or graphs that clearly show the differences between the behavioural styles. It is easier to observe patterns and compare and assess the various behaviours when they are represented by colours.
Colour is something that is all around us without us thinking about it.
RED = Fire, Energy
YELLOW = Sun, Heat
GREEN = Forest, Safety
BLUE = Sea, Deep
Colours act as a wordless language that conveys different moods, feelings, and beliefs.
